Enviromart was
established by the founding director and current president, Michael
Berens, in 1991. He had a vision to help the world's ecological
problems but needed an avenue to get fully involved. While consideration
was given to further his university education with a graduate
degree, one of the choices being in environmental science, he
came in contact with an environmental toilet manufacturer from
Sweden. After becoming an authorized dealer for BioLet toilets,
Enviromart launched an expansion phase and began to carry the
solar electric energy systems line. This provided a natural complement
to the needs of the remote off-grid, no septic system, cottager
who was seeking a viable, environmentally-safe living condition
upgrade while maintaining the privacy of the naturally wooded
cottage or cabin site. Today, the company has expanded its product
line to include a variety of health-care appliances. Enviromart
carries a full complement of innovative, high technology products
(see our Products) to enhance both
the environment and the needs of the consumer.
Michael F. Berens, B.A. has a four-year university degree in psychology with a minor in biology. While a student, he supplemented his part-time jobs by working for various professors in research. Throughout his work life, he has continued to update his continuing education in business with seminars and university courses. After having taught abroad in Spain, he continued his career as an educator in both the U.S.A. and Canada. Later, he worked in sales and marketing until he branched off as an independent communications consultant. His evolvement into ecological concerns was a natural transition after having spent years in spiritual pursuits. In the past, Michael has coached track, basketball and a nationally-ranked and provincial championship university swim team. With his busy involvement as president of Enviromart Inc., he still tries to devote as much time as possible to personal fitness including tennis, swimming, road cycling, running, triathlons, and other outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, ice skating and shinny hockey. Aside from a continuous learning schedule involving the leading-edge technical information, Michael has pursued self-study in alternative and hybrid energy systems as well as having formally studied several aspects of solar electric energy including design.
Joyce Lock, B.Sc., M.D., C.C.F.P.(EM), F.R.C.P.(C) is a medical doctor specializing in emergency medicine and a part-time university assistant professor. She is an active outdoors woman, enjoying white-water canoeing, hiking, camping, and is an active cyclist, runner, swimmer, and triathlete. As a health-conscious individual, Joyce has been instrumental in assisting the evaluation of our health-care appliance product line. As well, she has studied a seminar course on solar electric energy and basic design.
Paul Thompson, B.Ed., B.A. is our main web developer and co-web designer. Aside
from his busy family schedule, Paul's interests lie in multi-media
and web development, sports, especially hockey, and music. Paul
is a musician, composer, and secondary school music teacher.
